Depression Therapy

Have You Had Enough Of Feeling Helpless And Hopeless?

Do you struggle with self-love, financial difficulties, problems at work, health complications, or relationships? Has lack of interest or motivation caused you to no longer participate in activities you typically find enjoyable? Are feelings of low self-worth causing you to withdraw and shut out the people closest to you?

Perhaps you neglect basic hygiene and no longer feel the need to take care of yourself. Maybe accomplishing tasks around the home or at work has become difficult because thinking, concentrating, being motivated, being energetic and making decisions no longer come easily to you. Regardless of how hard you try, the heaviness of all your negative thoughts and emotions is wearing you down.

When all is said and done, you just want to feel worthy and happy.

Having Depression Isn’t Just About Feeling Sad

Depression at its surface may seem like just chronic sadness. But there’s so much more going on than meets the eye.

Maybe you experience irritability, crying spells, exhaustion or low energy, insomnia, oversleeping, and feelings of worthlessness and guilt. Moreover, you may find that there’s a change in your appetite and because of this you’re struggling with weight loss or weight gain.

You may have noticed you are going in fast motion or feel that your speech and movement are slowed.

The intensity of these emotions could feel so overwhelming that you’ve begun to have thoughts of death or suicide.

Though it may seem impossible right now, it is possible to heal from depression. With the right resources and support from our compassionate therapists at Romero Counseling & Wellness, you can learn how to manage symptoms of depression and feel lighter and happier.

It’s Normal To Have Moments of Emotional Overwhelm

Maybe you thought that depression was uncommon, but it isn’t. It is a widespread mental health condition impacting 5 percent of the population globally. An estimated 21.0 million adults in the United States have experienced one episode (8.4 percent of the population). Additionally, in any given year, one in fifteen adults experience depression. (1)

Feeling sad about life-altering events such as loss, divorce, or health complications is a natural reaction to suffering. However, when this sadness starts to become debilitating—interfering with almost every area of your life and causing negative thoughts and behaviors to develop— that is when you may need professional intervention.

Various Life Stressors Can Contribute To Depression

Depression is often linked to life stressors that can begin as early as childhood. Stressors such as growing up with a single parent, abuse (physical, verbal, or sexual), unemployment, unhealthy relationships, and experiencing traumatic events have a significant impact on your emotional and mental well-being. Moreover, physical health issues, and substance use, can lead to a sense of inadequacy, overwhelm, and helplessness.

No matter how depression develops, therapy gives you the opportunity to work through difficult experiences and help you create a happier, more hopeful version of yourself.

We Specialize In Depression Therapy So You Can Heal Your Heart And Mind

Living with depression can feel as if you're fighting with an invisible enemy. No one can see your depression which prevents them from knowing how powerfully it affects you. However, with depression therapy, you have the chance to talk with someone who provides compassion and walks alongside you during your healing journey. We create a safe space where you can feel at ease sharing and processing your thoughts and feelings in a nonjudgmental environment.

Our caring therapists will guide you on your healing journey by helping you understand yourself and your depression on a much deeper level while teaching you various skills to help manage symptoms. We also recognize the importance of using trauma-informed care in treating depression as it acknowledges the possibility of trauma history and allows us to provide effective care.

At Romero Counseling & Wellness, we value using compassion to help you process life-altering events. We also use compassion to help you grow and heal from the difficult experiences that are at the root of your depression.

Our ultimate goal is to empower you to achieve a sense of peace and calm in your life so that you are no longer controlled by depression.

Our Approach To Depression Treatment

At Romero Counseling & Wellness we offer a variety of approaches to help you manage and overcome depression.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is a therapeutic approach that examines underlying traumatic experiences that contribute to depression. The EMDR process contains eight phases of treatment and utilizes mindfulness, coping strategies, and grounding exercises to target memories.

This process uses bilateral stimulation (eye movements, hand taps, and sounds) to help you reprocess painful memories and recover from depression. We also incorporate strength-building exercises and self-soothing strategies to improve emotional regulation. This will leave you feeling lighter and like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an effective modality we use to treat depression. We’ll use it to explore unhealthy thinking patterns and look at how they influence emotions and behaviors. Through this method, we’ll examine your core belief systems and defense mechanisms, challenge them, and replace negative thinking patterns with more balanced and realistic ones.

Through CBT, we’ll also teach you various problem-solving skills and relaxation techniques like deep breathing and mindfulness meditation.

Mindfulness Practices are beneficial for depression as well since they allow you to become more aware of your present feelings, thoughts, and body sensations without judging them to reduce negative thinking patterns. During sessions, your therapist will teach you to be more present and discover inner peace by using grounding exercises, self-compassion exercises, and insight meditation.

Insight meditation will help you pay attention to what you are experiencing in the present moment, without judgment. This type of meditation is effective in treating depression and finding inner peace. Self-compassion exercises are effective in healing from depression. Your therapist will teach you to practice self-compassion by acknowledging your suffering with self-kindness and understanding.

These exercises include positive self-talk, hand over heart, journaling, self-acceptance, developing a meditation practice, and loving-kindness phrases like "May I be filled with loving kindness, may I be safe from inner and outer dangers, may I be well in mind and body, and may I be at ease and happy."

Our mindfulness exercises teach you to treat yourself like you would a friend. This way, you can accept your feelings, process them in a healthy way, and ultimately develop inner peace.

Solution-focused Therapy helps treat depression by focusing on the positive rather than the deficits. It allows us to use resources, strengths, and prior successes to explore solutions to issues you face with depression.

Counseling is vital to reducing the symptoms of depression and improving the quality of your life. With the right support, it is possible to feel hopeful about your future and happy about the life you lead.

Maybe You Are Considering Depression Therapy But Still Have A Few Concerns…

How do I really find hope when I’m so depressed?

With therapy, finding hope is very possible. We provide a supportive environment and use our years of training and experience to help you heal. We’ll also help you discover your strengths and how they can be helpful to your journey. We want to focus on your values and the things that are meaningful to you so that you can use them to experience healing.

Is it necessary for me to take medication?

At Romero Counseling & Wellness, we want to assure you that therapy is effective in treating depression and that it isn’t required for you to take medication. However, medication treatment can be significant in treating depression, but not everyone will need it. This kind of treatment will depend on the individual and their needs. Some people will need medication and therapy, while others may do well with therapy exclusively. During therapy, we will help you assess the best treatment for you.

Will someone who has had depression get it again?

Yes, they can. That said, experiencing a depressive episode does not automatically put a person at risk of developing depression again. Significant life events, illness, or a combination of traumatic experiences are generally what trigger a depressive episode. Seeking timely treatment is essential for recovery.
